MAUD is a design practice engaging in both architectural and urban design projects. Our work ranges from bespoke residential buildings, to commercial and hospitality fit outs, to masterplanning and the preparation of design guidelines. We have experience working on small intimate schemes for private clients, as well as large projects with multi-disciplinary teams that include some of New Zealand’s leading architecture and design professionals.
Whatever the job size or type, we believe that a full appreciation of the client’s aspirations for the project is fundamental to developing thoughtful and responsive design that enhances the way people live. Good listening, communication and collaboration are all key to this approach which begins with initial client meetings and continues as the project develops, other disciplines get involved, and the design moves from the conceptual to construction stages.
MAUD Director Natasha Markham is a registered architect with over 15 years of professional experience. Natasha has worked on a variety of different projects from interior fit outs to resorts to listed heritage buildings, but housing has been the mainstay of her architectural career. Her residential background includes bespoke houses, apartments, as well as large scale housing development which she worked on while in the UK. This experience, and a long standing passion for cities, prompted her to undertake a Masters in Urban Design on her return to New Zealand in 2006. After working as an urban designer for both local government and the private sector, Natasha founded MAUD (Markham Architecture + Urban Design) to integrate her interests and offer a range of design services across the spectrum of architecture and urban design.
